Cooking for Two

Eric will be surprising his girlfriend by cooking her dinner. He had never cooked for anyone before except his family. He never cooks for any girl unless he is sure that she is a keeper. Eric was a great cook but he doesn’t put any effort into it unless he really wants to.
Gladys is really special to Eric. They have been dating for almost two months and Eric is completely in love with her. He has never felt this way with anyone. Not even those whom he dated more than a year.

Tonight, Eric will be cooking some grilled salmon. He will also serve arugula salad and some blueberry cheesecake, Gladys’ favourite, for dessert. Eric’s nerves are threatening to get the best of him, but he never did falter. He grilled, mixed and cooked until everything was perfectly done.

Gladys will be arriving a few minutes from now and Eric just needs to find a great looking serving dish for the salmon. He checked his cupboard and atop a few cupcake pans was a beautiful piece of serving china. As soon as Eric placed a few finishing touches on the decorations on the table, the doorbell rang. It was Gladys and Eric smiled.

If you are into charm bracelets you are probably aware that the golden age of charms is in the 1940s up to the 1960s. After this period, these pieces of jewelry took a back seat to other types of jewels but they never completely died out. Today, charm bracelets are making a huge comeback. While this trend has been fuelled partly by new and innovative designs from an Italian company, part of it consists in the search for a vintage gold charm bracelet that dates back to the jewelry’s golden age.

The First Date

Jenny’s parents finally allowed her to go out on a date. Though there are still restrictions like curfews and weekends only dates, Jenny has never been happier.

When she got asked out by her long time crush, Jenny was ecstatic. She immediately rummaged her closet for clothes that she can wear on their date with Ian. She experimented with her hair and decided that she will not sport a ponytail but rather wear it down.

Jenny’s heart was pounding away on her chest as she was putting on her makeup. Her fingers shook as she applied light powder on her face. It a good thing that she began practising the how to apply makeup tips her mom and sister have shown her. She remembered to put on not too much makeup, just a bit of blush, a clear mascara, and some pink lip gloss. The overall effect was beautiful and just perfect. Jenny is sure that Ian would love how she looked tonight.

When the door bell rang, Jenny almost jumped. She is so excited and so nervous. She retouched the powder on her face and spritzed on some cologne before she answered the door. Ian was truly speechless and just smiled as soon as he saw how pretty Jenny appeared.

Life is unfair. Some days are great others are worst. Just like any other human being, I’ve had a fair share of my ups and downs. No matter what the reasons are, being sad and depressed is never a good feeling at all. There are times when I am too depressed that everything around seems wrong. There are only few things that would wipe away that feeling. Most people would have the so called “comfort food” that will be there to rescue them in times when they are low. In my case, it is the infamous sweet thing often called as chocolates.

Chocolates are made from the seeds of cacao. I am quite sure that everyone is familiar of this very sumptuous treat. It brings out the tinge of happiness whenever I feel bad about something. It magically uplifts my feeling in a way that I cannot understand. Then I found out that the feeling of happiness that I get from chocolates is not just me. There are studies that say that chocolates contain certain substances such dopamine and serotonin that induce the feeling of happiness. It is a side effect that we have whenever we eat chocolates. I really don’t matter if it is because of the substances that chocolates have or not. What I know is that when worse days come, I know that the magic of chocolates will always be there to lighten up my day.

Few years back, my idea of socialization was limited only to the people I see and talk to personally. When I rarely see the person, I found it hard to keep the communication. Friendships due to distance easily slipped through my fingers. I felt sad that my relationships with other people have a short lifespan due to the changes in my life until the World Wide Web was discovered.

The discovery of internet changed the lives of people in ways they could have never imagined. It has brought us the whole new idea of socialization through social networking. In my own experience, it has made me closer to people who became so distant in the past. Through social networking sites such as Facebook, Friendster, Multiply, Plurk and the like, I have found ways to stay in touch with my childhood friends. It even made a way for us to know what’s going on with each other even though we are miles apart. Shared pictures and blogs always keep us updated. The internet has widened my social networks and even paved way for me to meet new people. I am personally thankful to all the people behind these social networking sites because it feels so good to talk to old friends and rebuild the friendship that once I thought was lost.
